Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, was seen threatening trouble for voters who refuse to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a video published by the Leadership Newspaper on Tuesday.
Doguwa was caught on camera saying in Hausa, “On election day, I swear, it’s either you vote for APC or you will be dealt with.”

This comes after Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, denounced electoral violence and fraud at Chatham House on Monday.
It is, however, not Doguwa’s first link with violence. On November 1, he allegedly threw a teacup at the Kano State APC deputy-governorship candidate, Murtala Sule Garo.
Garo alleged that the majority leader flung a teacup at him while asking to know why he and other members of the federal assembly had not been invited to a meeting held at Garo’s residence.
While Doguwa denied throwing a teacup at Garo, stating that it was Garo who knocked the teacup over, he was quoted by the BBC referring to Garo as “the boy“. In the report, Doguwa said:
“The only question I have asked is, now, Mr. Deputy Governor, there should be a meeting like this for the government, for the commissioners, for the state assembly, but we who are in the federal assembly have not been invited. What did we do?
“After saying that, the boy Murtala was sitting and said that you will not be invited. These words made me angry.”
On November 3, less than three days after allegedly assaulting Garo, Doguwa was accused by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) of assaulting Abdullahi Yakubu, a journalist with the Leadership Newspaper, during a press conference held at his residence to address the events that transpired in Garo’s home.
