16.03.2022 Featured 140 Nigerians Killed by Bandits, Herdsmen in Five Days

About 140 Nigerians were killed by armed bandits and herdsmen between March 5 and March 10.

The National Security Tracker Update from Council on Foreign Relations revealed this on Tuesday.

Notably, armed bandits killed 63 vigilantes in Sakaba, Kebbi State, on March 6. Two days later, 26 persons were killed by herdsmen in Donga, Taraba State, and then bandits killed nineteen security agents in Danko Wasagu, Kebbi.

The death of four persons were attributed to electoral violence in Rano, Kano State, while some unknown gunmen killed two more civilians in Lokoja, Kogi State, on March 5.

On March 7, gunmen killed five and kidnapped eight more people in Munya, Niger State.

A traditional ruler was killed by assailants in Abeokuta North, Ogun on March 8. On the same day, herdsmen shot and killed five civilians in Guma, Benue State. Also, two persons were killed when a priest and four others were kidnapped by gunmen in Kaduna South on March 8.

Gunmen killed two vigilantes in Obi Ngwa, Abia State, on March 9. On March 10, herdsmen killed eight people in Guma, Benue, and then bandits killed three and kidnapped two in Chikun, Kaduna State.

Northern Nigeria has witnessed a spate of killings in recent times. In February, FIJ reported that bandits numbering over 200 wreaked havoc in about 13 villages in the Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State, killing and kidnapping an unknown number of people.
