Ajibola Odutola, a Lagos-based data analyst, has accused Green Africa Airways, a Nigerian airline, of failing to refund his money four months after cancelling his flight with them.

Odutola told FIJ that the airline unexpectedly cancelled his flight on February 15, citing technical reasons.

He said he had paid N55,000 for a flight from Lagos to Akure and back.

“I booked a to-and-fro flight with Green Africa airways on the 2nd of February, but it was cancelled 13 days later due to technical issues,” he said.

“After the flight was cancelled, Green Africa said they would make a complete refund but it would take them 20 working days.

“I asked them to put the money in a special wallet where I would be able to access it later when I wanted to book another flight, since they’d done that before, but Green Africa Airways said they couldn’t put this in a wallet, and I agreed to wait for 20 working days.”

Odutola said after the 20 working days elapsed, he wrote to them and they promised to work on the refund.

“One week passed and I still did not hear from them. I wrote to them again, and at one time, they told me the matter had not been escalated for a refund.

“At this time, I had sent about five emails, so I asked why they would say it had not been escalated.

“Later, I sent my copied file and they called me saying they would process the refund. And now, it’s been two months since then.

“Each time I called them, they’d say they’d get back to me, and nothing till date.”

FIJ’s several calls to Green Africa Airways were not answered. A message sent to them had also not been responded to at press time.
