Abiola Owoade, who lives in Abuja, has accused the airline company Aero Contractors of not refunding her N67,510 after it cancelled her flight.

Owoade told FIJ that she had booked an Abuja–Lagos flight, scheduled on May 7, for a five-day training. Upon arriving at the airport, Aero Contractors informed her that it had cancelled the flight due to an urgent situation.

Owoade said that all passengers got their boarding passes before the airline informed them that the Lagos Airport had closed its runway after a Max Airline plane crash-landed earlier that day.

“Aero Contractors provided us with their customer care line before we left. They advised us to call the number and rebook our flights, which I did,” Owoade told FIJ on Wednesday.

Owoade made multiple calls that night after learning that the runway had been cleared. Her attempts to rebook went unanswered.

Visiting their Hilton office at dawn, Aero Contractors informed Owoade that the next available flight was scheduled for May 10.

Since she was already late for her training by a day, she booked a flight with a different airline company and flew to Lagos.

Owoade said she went to the Aero Contractors ticketing office, on her way back from Lagos, where she filled out a refund form.

According to Owoade, the airline staff members told her she would get her money back in full because the cancellation came from the company, but this did not materialise.

“I have been calling since May 12, but there’s been no positive outcome. I sent an email and filled out the refund form online but it’s still the same story,” she lamented.

She further lamented that when she managed to reach the airline, they either mentioned a backlog or advised her to reschedule.

“Whenever they take my calls, they tell me they have a backlog or that I reschedule. I have also tried to reschedule to Benin but they keep saying no seat. Since June, they keep me on hold when I call and it goes off after about eight to 10 minutes.”

FIJ contacted Aero Contractors via email but received no response at press time.
