Yussuf Babagana, a Maiduguri-based civil servant, has detailed how Arik Air, a Nigerian airline, cancelled his and his mother’s flight and also failed to issue a refund of N101,000.
Babagana told FIJ that he was to fly from Abuja to Maiduguri with his mother, Maryam Asheikh, on April 20 when their flight was cancelled.
“I booked an Arik Air flight for my mother and I with booking numbers 1808GJ and 180gGJ respectively,” he told FIJ.
“When we got to the airport, they said the flight had been cancelled, without sending us a prior notification.

“They then asked us to return the following day to catch our plane.”
The civil servant said when he returned to the airport with his mother, the flight was cancelled again and moved four days ahead.
“The following day, we got to the airport, and we were told we couldn’t get on the plane again because the flight had been moved to April 25.
“This was when I got upset and was asked to fill a refund form for my N101, 000. They told me I would get my cash back in 40 days, and I left.”

Babagana said the deadline for refund given by the airline elapsed but he didn’t hear from them. He said he also sent messages and emails to follow up but only in futility.
FIJ’s email to Arik Air on Friday morning was yet to be responded to at press time.
