Victoria Lawal, a prospective TOEFL candidate, has voiced her frustration and disappointment after experiencing difficulties with Exam Planet Services, an educational firm she entrusted with her exam registration.

She told FIJ she paid the Ibadan-based firm N120,000 as early as September 6, 2022, and requested to be registered on October 1 of the same year, but the company failed to perform its obligation to her.

Victoria said that immediately she realised the company failed to register her for the examination, she tried to hear from them but to no avail.

“Numerous attempts to contact the management of Exam Planet Services customer service proved fruitless. Their customer representative kept giving me the runaround,” Lawal told FIJ.

She disclosed that her patience wore thin, and she demanded a refund on November 10, 2022. But instead of a professional resolution, a customer representative of the company identified as Nneka resorted to verbally abusing Lawal.

Lawal said that after she requested a refund of her money, she learned of Exam Planet Services’ 30-day refund policy and then decided to be patient for another month. But she soon became distressed after the promised 30-day refund period elapsed without any action from Exam Planet Services.

Lawal said that in frustration, she contacted one Demola, one of the firm’s accountants, who she hoped would assist her, but her interactions with him only resulted in further evasion and excuses, as he stated that the company had closed for the year in mid-December.

Victoria’s frustration persisted into the new year, and her attempts to seek resolution in January proved futile.

In an act of desperation, she pleaded with Demola, explaining that her inability to submit a TOEFL score had led to rejections from several schools she applied to the previous year. But her pleas fell on deaf ears.

Lawal said that in February, after reaching her breaking point, she modified the tone of her messages to Demola. Consequently, he blocked her line, and when she attempted to contact him using another number, he insulted her and denied any responsibility for the owed refund.

“Despite my persistent efforts to engage with Exam Planet Service through calls and emails, the company failed to acknowledge my grievances, choosing not to respond or return my calls,” she lamented.

“The financial burden placed on me is significant. I used up my savings from my service year to pay for school application fees and the TOEFL examination.

“But my plans have been disrupted by a lack of support and the unprofessional conduct I encountered at Exam Planet Service.”

FIJ called Exam Planet but got no response. As of the time of publication, the firm had yet to respond to the text message sent to their line.
